Snapper drive belt installation

Drain the lawnmower fuel tank to prevent fuel spillage when the lawnmower is turned up on the right side wheels. Disconnect the spark plug wire from the spark plug on the engine cylinder to prevent accidental starting. Lift the grass catcher bag handle from the handle frame assembly and lift the grass catcher bag off of the grass chute flange. Pull the transfer rod hair-pin retaining clip from the transfer rod pin with needle-nosed pliers. Pull the transfer rod pin from the transfer rod linkage on the left side lawnmower deck.

Lift the transfer rod from the speed control lever located on the left side driven disc assembly housing. Unhook the driven disc drive spring from the driven disc housing notch with needle-nosed pliers or spring-hook tool.

Slide the driven disc assembly left from the hex shaft. Unhook the drive disc idler arm spring from the right rear wheel bracket with needle-nosed pliers or spring-hook tool. Flip the lawnmower up on the right side. Unscrew the lawnmower cutting blade retaining bolt with a socket wrench. Remove the bolt and cone washer from the cutting blade and remove the blade. Unscrew the drive disc retaining nut from the underside mower deck with a socket wrench; slide the lock-washer free from the drive disc stud threads.

Remove the engine drive belt from around the disc drive pulley, disc drive idler pulley, through the lawnmower deck engine drive belt opening, and from around the engine drive pulley. Tilt the mower all the way back onto its rear wheels and secure it by placing a suitable weight, such as a sandbag, on the handle. Do not tilt the mower on its side with the carburetor or spark plug facing downward; doing so will foul the plug and saturate the air filter with oil, which prevents the mower from starting.

Don heavy work gloves and safety glasses. Undo the central bolt securing the mower blade to the drive shaft with a box wrench, and remove the blade. Remove the "U"-shaped belt guard beneath the deck by undoing the two bolts securing it to the transmission assembly. Place the belt guard on one side. Make a note of the drive belt configuration.

Apply upward force to the belt leading to the left of the blade pulley, rotate the pulley counterclockwise, and remove the worn belt from both the engine pulley and the blade pulley. Loop the replacement drive belt over the engine pulley. Home Support. Customer Support. Search Manuals. Register Product. Find a Dealer. Looking to Service Your Product? Service my Walmart product.
